Michael Nikolidakis is an active musician and passionate music educator. Initially a self-taught guitarist, Michael furthered his knowledge through formal study of piano, guitar, music theory and composition. Drawing on various musical traditions, Michael has studied classical, jazz, rock and computer music production. He has also studied Indian classical music on sitar with Gaurav Mazumdar, senior disciple of Ravi Shankar. Michael has studied with Frederic Rzewski, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Joel Hoffman, Tim Ribchester, Rob Auler, Joseph Federico, Martin Dillon and many others.

  Michael began college-level studies at Rutgers University before transferring to a top music conservatory, completing the degree Bachelor of Music in Music Composition at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), graduating summa cum laude. Michael has performed solo and with various music groups on keyboards, guitar and bass in a variety of public and private events. He was awarded Best Bassist at the international Emergenza music competition finals held at the Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia. Recent performances include Hand me Down the Silver Trumpet at Rutgers University, Berks Jazz Fest, First Energy Stadium, complete renderings of classic albums at the Perkins Center for the Arts, on air at WVUD Newark, Delaware, Django in June talent showcase, and a variety of public and private events.

    Michael also plays guitar in the tradition pioneered  by Django Reinhardt known as Gypsy Jazz, also Jazz Manouche. This music has it all: the elegance and lyricism of classical, the great swinging feel of jazz, the fire of Gypsy music and the energy and drive of rock music. Michael participated at the Django in June festival in Northampton, MA in 2012 -2014. He plays this music with area musicians in a group known as Djangoholics Anonymous. He has taken lessons and masterclasses from Paulus Schafer, Stephane Wrembel, Samson Schmitt, Gonzalo Bergara, Tcha Limberger, Rino van Hooijdonk, Adrien Moignard, Barry Wahrhaftig, Pierre-Kamlo Barre, Olli Soikkeli and many others.


Welcome to Michael’s Music Studio, the teaching studio of Michael Nikolidakis, musician and music educator.

Students of all ages are welcome, from beginner to advanced, in the areas of piano, guitar and music theory. Lessons are offered in southern New Jersey in the following formats:

  1. 1)in the student’s home (currently lessons are offered in Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Cherry Hill and Burlington Township)

  2. 2)at my studio location in Laurel Springs area

  3. 3)at Rutgers University, for college credit

In private lessons, focus is given the development of effortless technique, musicianship and a diverse repertoire encompassing each period of music history. Each student is an individual, and lessons are often tailored to the goals and interests of each particular student, often resulting in a mix of classical, jazz, pop, rock, Christmas and ragtime music.

Michael has a great love for teaching and learning. His students enjoy his approachable, yet challenging, method of teaching music.
